Well...there's the dead body...? *Evil grin*

I take off the man's right shoe, feeling slightly queasy as I do it.

With the shoe in my hand, I walk back over to the pit. I hold the shoe out and drop it down, listening carefully to hear how many seconds it takes before I hear the shoe's collision with the floor.

The shoe stops with a "dunk" at about the same level where the floor would be. It flops to the left a bit, and then falls into the abyss.

I blink, confused. To make sure I wasn't seeing anything, I go back, get the left shoe, and repeat the process.

The result is much the same, except this shoe flops to the right before falling into nothingness.

Keeping my balance on my left foot, I gently try to feel around the blackness with my right foot.

Your foot knocks into something hard round about where you dropped the shoes.

I take a breath, shifting my weight to my right foot, but still hold onto the door frame with my hands..

You nearly plunge into the darkness. I said your foot CONNECTED with something, not that it was "ON" something.

I scramble back up, catching my breath. Scary. Taking hold of the doorframe again, I try to feel around for whatever it is my right foot connected with the first time. Once I do, I try to foot the base of my foot on top of it.

You slowly manange to put your foot on the something. It is flat, and slightly less wider than your foot, and appears to be completely black. Think that scene from the last Indiana Jones film with the painted bridge, only a lot smaller.

Great. Just perfect. I need to navigate my way via impossible to see, stepping stones. Too bad I have such bad balance. I groan, knowing it's probably my only way out. I try to stabilize my foot on this little platform before shifting my weight onto my right foot again.

You wobble a little bit, but seem to stabilize.
