I sigh, wishing I had x-ray vision. "Listen," I turn to the man. "We need to think of a way to get out of here. To unlock this door without any murdering going on." She doesn't want to think she's going to live out a SAW movie.

"Ok." I take a seat in front of him. "So whoever left you in here had to have gotten out themselves, right? Which means there must be another way out as well! The machine," I point to it, "is keeping you alive, but it's also monitoring whether or not you're alive. So, if you died, it would open the door to the cage with a key. So somehow, we need to fool the machine into thinking you're dead, without killing you. Got that?"

He nods, then, prehaps guessing where you're going with this, mimes pulling the wires off his torso, then points to the machine, then makes explosive gestures.

There is an enormous red "ON" button on it. You can't believe you didn't notice it before. It is currently lit up.
