'Hmmm. This will be interestingi f Paka accepts...' Lief thinks to himself. For once the fox can stay out of trouble while someone else does...

"Yes." Malevolos answered with dark smile, ignoring the obnoxious Rojo. "It is." He lifts his hand and with the simple movement shadows rise from the ground. They split into tendrils and twist into the shape of a cage. Within the twisted bars is an unwilling guest.
Asila looks out at the assembled group, gaping in surprise. She whips around to face her captor. "Whoa, wait a minute!" She exclaims, unable to resist an attempt at rattling the bars even though the action was cliche. "Malevolos, let me out of here! This isn't funny!" She pauses suddenly. "Wait...if I'm here, who's controlling the keyboard?"
Malevolos smiles. "Silence, girl. It makes no difference." Asila scowls at him, but he is no longer looking at her. He is staring once more at Paka. "You would make things easier for yourself if you just relinquished your challenge." His sullen red gaze gains a soft glow. "I may even let the girl go."

Devon's eyes widened seeing the young and beautiful girl caged in the large, black bird cage. His inner 'Prince Charming' was dying to rush out, unsheath his rapier, and play hero, rescuing the woman. Fiend! To hold an innocent hostage and threaten to endager them for a power struggle with a stranger, for a sick game!!
The nobleman frowned with disgust, stepping foward and arching into a defensive position. "Villain! How dare you try and hold this lady against her will. What do you intend to do coward?" He despised users, those who would hold others hostage, unable to accept a challenge honorably by themselves.
Lief saw the young man riling up with anger; apparently the dragon had crossed what his definition of 'honor' was. Honor is a silly thing really, a human invention, a self-enforced mental prison, ensuring that people continue to do things foolishly. He kept his thoughts to himself, but he held out a hand in front of Devon, silencing him before he did something foolish himself, such as trying to challenge the powerful dragon. "This is not the time Devon. The girl is still safe, but your hasty actions will only endanger her. Besides, this is Paka's battle." The fox couldn't help but be interested in who the victor would be. But he flashed Devon a knowing sly smile for a brief moment, an assurance that if things got out of hand, he would know what to do.

Paka stared "Umm, okay...what is this supposed to be doing?" Rojo whacked him over the head "It's to test your heart, I think..." "Oh..." "SAVE ASILA! "Okay, Okay, JEEZ!" Paka holds out his hand. He is about to dispel this foolish mortal's cage, when he is suprised to find a barrier quite strong for a human, He tilts his head from side to side "Okay, you have some skill. But can the magic of a mortal compare with that of a god?" his scythe materilizes in his hand again, and he makes a sweeping motion with it. "CAREFUL!" yells Rojo, ducking. THe blade cuts a strange vortex in the air. "Brake down this cage" says Paka, pointing towards it. After a few seconds, nothing appears to be happening, then a rumbling is heard. Then a large barrage of demons, big and small come parading out of the vortex rip. THe minions of the tenth layer of hell charge forward, crawling over the cage, knawing at it, scratching, some even using weapons to hack at it.
Something makes a "Kweh!" noise in the nearby bushes...

Asila stopped glaring at Malevolos when the rest of the group started speaking. She stepped toward them, staring out through the bars, her unhappy expression shifting into a huge grin with a single, amused thought. "Awww, everyone's so cute!" She said cheerfully, staring first at Devon as he spoke, then to Lief, then at Rojo and Paka. She seems oblivious to all that has just been said.
Malevolos only stares at Devon, arcing an eyebrow at his incredibly old fashioned display of chivalry, before turning back to the one he had challenged. He frowns at the demons, his own demonic gaze blazing brighter as he turns to face them.
Asila manages to snap out of her fascination when the demons start munching on her cage. "Yikes!" She yelps, backing away from the bars. She eyes the demons cautiously, wondering if they are going to stop with the bars or if now would be a good time to panic. Hmm...
But while she is pondering this, Malevolos calls upon an even greater barrage of darkness to absorb Paka's demons. The shadows flit toward the cage from all sides and crash into the denizens, quickly swirling into a huge column that overwhelmed the demons before disappearing into the ground, leaving the cage as it had originally been. Except it was now riddled with holes.
"It is not power alone that makes a good villain." Malevolos said. "While that was an impressive display, that was not my challenge. Had you chosen to wait for a moment, I would have informed you that the objective was to use this girl's weaknesses to coerce her will to your own. Can you inspire fear, Paka?" Once again, that same dark smile. It was a trademark of his.
Asila, who had been speculatively considering one of the larger holes in her cage, turned back to the dragon-demon hybrid that she'd been unwise enough to create. "What!" She exclaims. "That's not even fair, you know! I don't have any magical powers. Forget this, I'm just going to write my way out of here." She pulls a small notebook from a pocket in her jeans and starts writing. Shadows soon dissolve the small pad of paper and she stares at Malevolos, outraged.
The dragon smirks but says nothing. Once again, he is waiting for Paka's response.

Lief watches curiously at Mal's proclamation. Of course, had Paka actually saved the girl, he would have been a hero, not a greater villian. And why would a villian save a person? No, frightening an innocent into submission is a much better challenge, one that makes sense.
Devon on the other hand looks mortified. This match was awful! Even if Paka won, the girl would still be--would be--be nothing more than their 'hostage,' or something like that. Still, he noted a flaw--couldn't the girl just decided to be most frightened by Paka, since she obviously didn't like Malevolos? It seems after all, that the winner gets to keep her or something... Or is there some sort of magical spell that would force her into going with truth?

Paka flops a hand, obviously unphazed by the disintergration of his minions. "Scaring? Pu-lease!" he walks over to Asila. He looks at her. Projecting images of carnage into her mind: People being slaughtered and devoured by undead, women screaming, children crying, men yelling. And then they were both there, Paka and Asila, in a town, the smell of burning flesh and rotting heavy on the air. Paka stands atop a pile of corpses, his eyes red, glinting as he laughs, the flames of the town reflecting in his eyes. A child staggers to Asila, screaming fit to burst. Then sick, rotting hand places itself on the child, followed by more, and more until Asila and the child are enveloped in the hands of the undead, then...nothing. Simply blackness, an endless expanse. Something men fear more than death. Paka releases Asila from his monstrous visions, and stands back. He clicks his fingers at Malevolos "Top that,"
"What'd he just do?" Rojo asks Devon, as if the noble might know.
"KWEEEEEEH!"

((still too long. Oh well, now that the challenge is over I should be able to manage responses that are less drawn out. )) Asila's eyes widened as the vision blazed through her mind. She seemed to freeze for a long moment, becoming impossibly still as she tried to keep all expressions of terror to herself, so that these villains could not see how much Paka had affected her. Zombies! She hated zombies! And how could he have known? Hers was hardly a generic fear. It wasn't even realistic. She brought her hands up to the side of her head and squeezed her eyes shut. "Get OUT of my HEAD!" She yelled wildly, feeling very disoriented by the alien images and their vivid, macabre theme. Then it was over and she dropped to her knees. "The moment...that I can think coherently," She gasped, "I am going to find a way to kill both of you for that." Malevolos, being vaguely connected to the writer's mind, had seen the entire vision. His eyebrows seemed to disappear beneath the wild locks of black hair that draped over his forehead. He was impressed. His competitor had managed to take advantage of two of the girl's strongest fears. Not only did he confront her with cannibalistic undead, but he had done so in a way that also tampered with her mind, something she feared as much as the zombies themselves. "Ignore her." He said in response to the girl's tremulous words. "She'll grumble nonsense of that nature even while she does as you command." He waved his hand vaguely in her direction. It was clearly a dismissive gesture. He let the bars of darkness that formed the cage disperse. He looks again at Paka, nodding his head respectfully. "Impressive." He rumbled, "While I may be able to match you I can not surpass such technique. I forfeit."

((*Hands up in defence* Hey! I wasn't Meta-gaming! Everybody's afraid of zombies! And besides, if your characters can make connections with your mind, so can mind. )) The Final Fantasy victory theme played right on que as the words left Malevolos' mouth. Paka span around and made the piece sign, hefting his scythe over his shoulder in a cool and suave fashion. He completely ignored the girl threatening him. Rojo rushed over to Asila, always the one to be the dashing hero when the need be "Are you alright?" he asks in his most manly voice. Shadow rolled his eyes in the background. THen something yellow and bird-like flashed past with something green atop it. Shadow watched it with mild interest, Paka turned his head, ROjo looked up "What was that?"

Chibi Devon pounces over Rojo, shoving him aside and letting him fall over as he does so. Two dashing young heros in the group might be one too many. "Miss," he called out sweetly to the young woman, "you needn't fear Miss, there aren't any zombies here!" he says, unintentionally lying. Nevod snickers at the fact that Rojo was shoved aside, wondering if the two might end up fighting about who got to be the dashing hero when it came to damsels in distress.
But before anymore 'heroing' could be done by either party, a young girl bounds out of the bushes. "Never fear asila--I'LL SAVE YOU!!!" It's Serena, just a tad bit too late, dressed up in camoflauge and a cardboard sword. "Curses--I'm too late! They've already eaten your brain!!!" she sobs, falling dramatically to her knees. "Cruel cruel world--to take a mind so kind and brilliant as Asila's!!! I shall have the head of the fowl villian who has done this to her!!!!" she holds up the cardboard sword dramatically, lights flashing behind her.
Then she goes back to looking very pleasant. "Oh, hi Malevolos! Long time no see!" she says rather chiperly.
Lief, Devon, and nevod just stare at her in confusion.

((Ah! You are flattering me again! At this rate, my ego is going to become terribly inflated! Oh, and I know why you thought I had accused you of meta-gaming, Rojo. When I wrote 'it wasn't even realistic', I was referring to the fear of zombies (since the probability of running into one is slim to none. I hope.) In fact, I was hoping that your character would do just what he did. You played directly into my claws! -cue dark laughter-))
Asila stares at Rojo, feeling slightly confused, a sentiment that only increases as Devon pushed him aside, apparently determined to claim the role of dashing hero. After being mentally mauled by the villains of the group, such kind displays of chivalry were startling. She blinks, having trouble adjusting to the sudden change in fortune. "Uh, I'm all right?" She responds, seeming unsure of her own answer. She only grins to disguise this and continues in a cheerful tone of voice, as is her habit when dealing with amiable strangers. "Thank you for asking."
She looks up at the bird-creature, but can not answer Rojo. She doesn't have the slightest idea what it could be. However, she quickly forgets about it when Serena charges to her rescue. Better late than never. "Serena!" She squeals cheerfully, displaying the benefits of a short attention span. She glomps her friend with such enthusiasm that poor Serena probably wouldn't be able to breath.
Malevolos too is surprised to see Serena. "Greetings, Serena." He says with a great degree of warmth. He paces forward, tugging Asila free of her grasp and tossing her back toward the the valiant heroes. He stands in such a way that he blocks her from view, as though trying to disguise an unpleasant secret. "I am truly fortunate that you have chosen this moment to arrive." Since she hadn't been able to see what had taken place..."As always, your company is my greatest pleasure." He graces her with his most handsome smile, and believes that she will be so charmed by his flattery that all questions of what had passed here would immediately slip her mind.

Rojo rolls over, landing on his face in the dirt as Devon pushes him. He stands up, looking appauled, mouth agape, then he barrels into Devon, yelling ridiculous things like "Hark!" and "What ho!"
Paka watches the chocobo shoot past with interest, watching as the Goblin atop it cackles with glee. As he appeared to be the only one to notice, he just kept watching it rush about.
Shadow yawned. The moon would be out soon.

"ack!" And so, the two boys end up in a scuffle. Lief watches them for a moment with an amused expression before turning back to see what Malevolos is up to. Strange, it seems he has a fondness for the newly arrived human girl. He tilts his head in confusion. But Malevolos HATES humans...Or could he have...? The fox begins to grin.
"Asila!" Serena returns the hug, only for the two to be torn a part again. This time by Malevolos. In her psazzy, chibi state of mind, she grins, forgets all about why Asila was kidnapped in the first place. Molly might think it's his charm, but serena is being affected by ADD now that she's chibi. "Malevolos!!!" she beams, running over and hugging him like an old friend rather than an old captor. She grins, looking up at him. "Can I call you Molly?"

Malevolos arcs an eyebrow at Serena, clearly bemused by her behavior. "I'd rather you not." He said slowly in response to her question, wondering where she had gotten such an idea. And why she was acting as afflicted by ADD as his human host often did.
Speaking of human hosts, Asila had already leapt to her feet and stomped back over to the two of them. "That was RUDE!" She exclaimed, cuffing Malevolos upside the head. "Just for that, I really should name you Molly! Then no one will ever take you seriously!" She begins to laugh evilly, possibly making everyone wonder just who the evil one in the pair really was.
The dragon just stares at Asila as though trying to decide what horrible punishment he should enact upon her for her insolence.
