Name:Lucien Zyren
Age:147
Race:Zyren
Description: Lucien is a tall, broad-shouldered man whose presence is otherworldly in a way that hushes every room he steps into. He moves like a shadow; mysterious yet generally unassuming at first, though increasingly more cryptic the more one tries to pin down his precise nature. The first thing people generally notice is his intimidating size and piercing way of staring right through people. Then, should they ever relax enough to take in the details, they realize that he is remarkably...beautiful, in a fashion. His black hair is made up of artfully layered dreadlocks and raven black feathers; the feathers are real, and due to the pain that comes with severing the quills he rarely cuts it and always keeps it long. The hair framing his face is a brilliant metallic gold that is echoed in the hairs of his eyebrows and the eyelashes that frame his eyes like rays of the sun. Those eyes are a cross between the deep copper color he inherited from his loup garou mother and the rose quartz shade of his father, descending in a gradient from copper at the top of his irises to an equally warm and pleasant pink. His skin is a rich, deep brown that serves a sharp contrast to the gold in his hair and eyelashes.
His is a unique balance between beauty and power; his facial features softly refined, but the eyes, framed though they may be by striking rays of gold, are set in his skull with the predatory sharpness of the wolf. His wild-seeming hair is balanced by the delicate gleam of the raven black feathers. His broad shoulders are in contrast with his long-fingered, delicate hands; hands that are punctuated by black scales like those seen on a raven's taloned legs.
It is not a raven that has modeled these changes, but the equally opportunistic relative that once followed wolves across the great plains in hope of stealing a share of their kills. Lucien has made himself home to two pair-bonded magpie spirits, binding them to himself much as the Guardians tie animal spirits to harshly captured, unwilling hosts. Lucien and his magpies differ in that they struck a mutual deal for power, decades ago, and live in cooperation. They serve him much like familiars would, but lack bodies of their own. They are sometimes known to possess other objects when the mood suits them. (I'm thinking of the black-billed magpie species in particular for this. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black-billed_magpie They pick on foxes. www.youtube.com/watch?v=USN8spjKFlU They also pick on cats. There are so many videos of magpies picking on cats.)
Though he has many traits of a mystic, he usually just dresses much like one of the English Professors of the old world; all slim-fitting knitted sweaters over button up linen-shirts, paired with the occasional blazer. He is fond of pairing gold with black in his wardrobe.
Personality: Lucien is generally known to behave in strange, cryptic ways that his associates have a hard time making sense of. There are multiple reasons for this. One is that he has a long developed habit of keeping all 'inconsequential' information to himself. Another is that he has learned to really play up the role of mystery man for his own entertainment. Still another is the fact that he generally has three personalities residing in his head at all times. While he is powerful enough to accommodate his corvid associates, he does sometimes make the mistake of speaking aloud pieces of a frequently chatty inner dialogue if he isn't being careful.
Since baffling people seems to be his fate, he figures he might as well play it up as one of his strengths.
That is to say, he is strange yet playful and prone to the occasional theatrical moment for the sake of the part he forever plays.
History: Lucien played a crucial role in the Battle for Wyvern nearly a century ago. Through some peculiar stroke of fate, he was the only one to survive. This was an extraordinarily peculiar twist in the events of that long ago battle; there was no reason for him to be the only one in his clan to survive. Yet for all the time he's spent trying to divine the answers over the following decades he has never been able to find them. While he's developed a few educated guesses, he knows nothing for certain. He simply remains, the solitary caretaker of Wyvern's formidable magical barrier.
The decade following that battle was a worrying one for those few among the living who knew him. There had just been something wrong with him. He developed a peculiar obsession with heights and was often seen perched at the top of the tallest buildings, where he would sometimes sit for hours. Those days he didn't speak much, and he had a strange way of smiling. If wolves werent's so adept at divining ill intent in people, there would have been significant cause for concern. Fortunately, there was nothing murderous in his behavior. It seemed as though his only intent was to purposely unsettle and prank people, nothing more.
Then, after a long decade, it was over. He took up the mantle of leader to his people, supported by a loyal council of peers, and began to invest himself in helping them reach a point where they could thrive much more. Even though he has the occasional relapse, the episodes haven't lasted anywhere near as long as they did when they first began.
Political Standing: Lucien is a close and long-standing ally of the loup-garou.
Abilities: His abilities are limited only by how much power he can ethically borrow from the world. Normally he is quite respectful and takes only what he needs to maintain Wyvern's shield. When under duress, he is quite capable of drawing as much power from the world as a Guardian would.
Weaknesses: Living with two magpies in his head is much like having a multiple personality disorder; his life can get very chaotic and...strange, to say the least.
Here's a picture; He should have more feathers in his hair, but I would have needed to do a side profile to draw them properly. I imagine they stick out mostly through the dreads on the back of his head.
