*ehem* And now, it is time for Seven's obsession of the day/week/month: VOCALOID MUSIC VIDEOS!!!
You might be wondering, "Gee Seven, what are vocaloid music videos?" To which I'd immediately answer, "Google it." But since I have been neglecting FF for so long, everyone is in for a treat; I shall once again write a lengthy and unneeded explanation just like in the good old days when I'd ramble about everything! *ehem* Anyways...
Anyways, Vocaloid is a singing synthesizer application software developed by the Yamaha Corporation that enables users to synthesize singing by typing in lyrics and melody. It was created by those crazy Japanese people, who can be brilliant geniuses when they want to. Basically, they hired a singers to input their voices (or something like that), and used their fancy software to create a way so that given the 'voice,' they were then able to synthasize a person singing. A person who buys the Vocaloid software is then able to write their own music and have the Vocaloid sing the words with the designated tune.
Pretty neat, huh?
Anyways, ALSO because they're Japanese, EVERYTHING needs to be given an anime mascot. So, of course, since they have like a dozen different 'voices' you can buy for your Vocaloid software, they turned each voice into a Character! Popular characters include Miku, Kaito, Ren, Len, and some others. *is lazy *
So anyways, the point to this rant. Vocaloid has become pretty popular on the internet. People have started creating a bunch of songs using it. But here's the interesting part...Because they used the 'characters,' a good deal of people (i.e. A LOT) using vocaloid then animate their songs, using the mascot characters as the actors. So, there's literally thousands of music videos by very talented (very Japanese) artists! The range of stuff created in simply incredible! There's macabre, there's humor, there's cute and all sorts of stuff. (If you've already clicked the links on the cbox, you'll see that those are two examples of what people do.)
I only discovered vocaloid last night, but I just found it so fascinating, I thought I should create this thread to basically show case it. So, I'll be posting some vocaloid videos I found, usually with summaries of what's going on in the 'plot' of the videos (yes, most videos have a plot).
Also, if anyone else feels like getting into this, feel free to post the videos you found here!
And without further delay, my first bunch of videos!
Circle You, Circle You
Genre- Macabre/Horror (Yes, this is on the cbox as well.)
Spoilers!
Here is the plot, in case you're still lost after watching it:
The song tells a story of many forgotten children (Hatsune Miku, Megurine Luka, Kagamine Len, Kagamine Rin, Kaito, Meiko, Kamui Gakupo, Akita Neru, Yowane Haku, and Kasane Teto), who are orphans, living inside an abandoned orphanage. They proclaim that they are "so very happy" that the viewer has come, and insist that they play a game of "Kagome Kagome", or "Circle You, Circle You" with them. As the song progresses, it is revealed that the children were guinea pigs for a science experiment, apparently to create a vaccine for eternal life. In order to test this vaccine, the loser of the games the children play lose a body part, and if they survive, then they are left to play forever (for example, Ruko Yokune losing her head and dying and Rin Kagamine losing her arm and living). As time goes on, the scientists all die of unknown causes, but the children are left to play forever. Their eyes lose their color, and their sanity begins to falter. It ends with Miku slicing the viewer in half after evidently losing the game.
Also, if you watch closely, there's a subliminal image for half a second.
Cantarella (Canon Version/Version 1)
Genre- Romance, Darkish?
Spoilers/Explanation!
A man (Kaito) tries to keep his love for a girl (Miku) hidden from her, thinking she might not feel the same, so he decides to rape her (and possibly get her pregnant) in order to make the girl his. The man invites the girl for a glass of wine, putting a drug, "Cantarella", into her drink. The girl faints and the man picks her up and takes to a bedroom. As he lays her down, he begins to remember the time they had met. He then realizes that everything he did was a mistake and begins to cry. The girl, who was unconscious (or faking unconsciousness), sits up and pushes the man down. He then realizes that she had always loved him, and the two kiss.
Cantarella (Version 2)
This is actually the first vocaloid video I found, which started this whole mess. Yes, again, it's on the cbox, but I'm immortalizing it in this thread. The song is the same, but the story is just slightly different...Not that it matters. Given the video and the previous explanation, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out. And yes Pan, I do love it for all of it's POTO, masked Phantom/Spectre goodness. *fangirl*
Anyways, enjoy!
