I decided to take a page out of Rojo's book and post a few pictures of my room. Try not to be overwhelmed. I never realized just how chaotic my room was until I photographed it.
This first picture is what you'd see as you walked through the door. I still have my Christmas stuff out because I'm lazy and I haven't put it away yet, and my bed is made up sloppily because my dog, that black blob near the headboard, was sleeping on it and I couldn't straighten it out since I didn't want to disturb her, but you get the idea. Also, if you look really closely at that diamond shaped mirror between the two stars, you'll see an etched design. It's a stylized rose being engulfed by flame, and it was one of my high school art projects.
This is where the chaos really shines through. What you see here, somewhere beneath all the stuff, is my entertainment center. At the top is more stuff I've made. On the far right, nearly cut off, is my goofy little demon cat mug that I made out of clay, and the gold llamia is another art project from the following semester. Paper mache was the worst, but it turned out better than I'd thought it would. The unicorn was a ceramics project. And the rest is just some of the stuff I've managed to collect over the years.
This is the heart of my book collection. Believe it or not, two years ago, I could fit nearly all of my books onto these bookshelves. Now my collection seems to be twice as large and has taken over half of the available surfaces in my room. The rat is Rafe. I didn't plan on his being in this one.
Here a couple of rat pictures. Don't look too closely at the cage. It's disgusting. These two rats are such slobs compared to the ones I've had in the past. The wire part of the cage needs to be hosed down and scrubbed, but I'll have to wait until spring arrives. Look instead at the cute little rat-lers. The one that's sticking his head out in the top picture is Angelo (short for Michaelangelo) and the one at the front of the bottom picture, who looks as though he's about to make a break for it, is Rafe (short for Raphael).
This is the old vanity that's in my room. My grandparents love antiques, and my room already had a few old pieces of furniture in it when I moved in. I love this vanity, though. I think it's gorgeous, even though it needs some work done. The only thing that's aged gracefully on it is it's mirror. A lot of the veneer has already peeled off. The books lined up on this one are my oldest books, a lot of them are between eighty and one hundred ten years of age. Ignore the bible. It's only there because, well, it's a gorgeous book filled with illustrations of what seem to be pictures from the Renaissance, even though most of the images weren't famous enough for me to recognize. Still, they are very pretty, and it only cost me three dollars. On the walls, we have a picture of my kitty and a collage. Both were projects I finished in my first semester of high school art, though I didn't take my first art class until I was a senior. I didn't have much faith in my abilities. The collage has a semi-interesting story behind it, though. It was supposed to be an image that expressed how the music you listened to made you feel. Yeah...
Want to know something really cool, though? When I first finished that picture, the chains were intact. It was only when I unpacked it after I moved into the house I live in now that I noticed it had lost a few of it's links, as though the owner behind that fist had finally begun to break free (sorry, this picture doesn't really show it that well). I've decided to never replace the missing pieces, because I really love the symbolism.
Finally, that wire wolf of that shelf was yet another one of my senior art projects. Yeah, it was supposed to be a wolf. It just happened to turn out like a cross between a fox and Anubis. That had not been the plan, but I'm glad my artistic mind decided to go with the more surreal design. It looks really cool. This was also one of those projects that I cursed so vehemently while creating it that a.)my art teacher teased me for the rest of the semester and b.) it's probably possessed. Also, that weird little bug-eyed mask thing that's hanging from the shelf was my latest purchase from the Goodwill.
And this is the picture that pretty much brings us full circle in my room. That dresser is the second piece of furniture that was in my room when I moved in. I love it, too. Most of the stuff explains itself, but on the left side of the dresser is the mirror I was telling Seven about (I'll have a better picture at the end) and on the shelf are the things I got from Mexico. The mermaid, the painted tile, the Aztec-looking bottle with the lion's face and the spear thing with the little warrior sitting on it. The goofy little plastic dolphin is what I picked up from the Bahamas when I was a kid, and the other stuff I picked up in less remarkable places and just put it on the shelf because I thought they looked good there.
The next two are from my sisters room, which I have begun to take over. The old love seat is another antique of my grandparents'. I think it's the coolest thing ever. Everything else explains itself. I have one disclaimer, though. The pictures on the closet are not mine. I like my pictures framed or, at the very least, set far enough apart from the other pictures that they don't overlap. I was thinking about taking those pictures down, but I want to make sure my sister isn't going to decide to move back in first.
This is pretty much the same thing, just closer up so that you can see the clutter better. On the left, by the dark armored dragon, is another one of my mirror projects. See the stylized dragon? I transferred that design from my sketchbook onto that mirror. It looks better in the picture than it does in person, because we had problems with the etching goop, but it's still nifty. Seven, like how I contrasted the dark Western dragon on the left with the light Asian dragon on the right? *grins*
All right, this is just a picture of miscellaneous knick knacks that I am particularly fond of. My two peculiar nutcrackers and the enameled mirror I got for Christmas. (I have so many mirrors that I will be in for one hell of a ride should I ever manage to do something that would result in all of them breaking) Isn't the Dosselmeyer nutcracker the coolest? He's my idol. Oh, and all potential stalkers will get to have a blast with this one, since my full name is on that mug. *shrugs*
And that's the end of my virtual tour. Hope I didn't blab too much. *grins*
