Oh yeah, it will belong there. Believe me. I just picked out one of the worst ones in that sketchbook. I couldn't free hand anything back then, though I could copy very well. But if I have to publicly humiliate myself with this picture (ignore the harsh words. I mostly think it's funny.) I get to post more good pictures here.
Hmm, since my crappy picture is one of a griffin, I have decided that the next picture I post here will be one of the latest griffins. Though I'll have to scan a page from my other sketchbook if I am to post it. Looks like I'll get even more use out of my scanner. *smiles*

Yeah, we get to see your crappiest pictures! Pan is being a wussie, she's only showing the best of her old sketchbook. I'll have to go pelt with her with woodchips once I get home.
As for the new griffin picturem can't wait to see it. BTW, could you post the wolf picture you did? I lost it in my pm box, but it was really good.

All right, I haven't drawn any griffins lately, so this one is from '05. It's not incredibly realistic, but it's cute and it looks neat, so good enough. Something worth pointing out though is that the first griffin was from a period in my life when I was very happy and my mind was stable, and this one was drawn one year after I had moved and my mind began to fray. Basically, I created it during the period of time that triggered all of the problems I'm still facing now. I think that you can actually see the difference. i27.tinypic.com/10zsgvt.jpgAnd then we have Phantom and Vengeance, the wolves of time from a wolf rp that I was once on. As I've told Seven a few months back, I named them for two masked men. It's pretty obvious by their names which ones. These wolves were pretty hardcore, Vengeance being much like one would imagine Lestat to be if he were evil. Wish you could have met them, but you'll have to settle for a picture. i30.tinypic.com/15eaa9s.jpg

As bad as this sounds, maybe you should consider having a frayed mind more often... The griffin looks really good, is what I mean *shifty eyes*
I still love this pic! Yeah, wolves. I love the fur...and the moon.

Don't worry, I can understand the sentiment. I might have been happy as a Freshman, but I was not as talented, or as creative if I may flatter myself, as I am now. And if I had to pick up a few strange mental quirks along the way, my ability to create these images and to imagine the stories I have begun to write is well worth the sacrifice. Still, I cannot help the occasional moment of nostalgia...
It was weird though when I noticed that the first griffin and the one here were drawn only two years apart. But one year felt like an eternity back then.
And yes, wolfies are cute. And I always have fun drawing the fur like that. It looks really wild and dramatic and is a lot of fun.

Years for me are not distinct at all. You say it feels like an eternity, and for me, it's always felt like yesterday.
But honestly, I don't think you should be unhappy just so you can draw cool stuff. Maybe you can try to start going off positive energy instead?

Years pass quickly for me now, though I still feel as though I have changed drastically at the end of each one. Still, for a while they couldn't have possibly dragged on any longer. As for drawing things when I'm happy, I never have. At least, I haven't since those earliest pictures. *remembers* Oh my god, I remember where I have some of my old dragon drawings! I illustrated a book of poetry that I had to do for a project in an eighth grade lit. class! *smacks self on forehead* I'll have to put one of them up on the dated artwork thread later. Still, I do have a few drawings that I sketched when I was bored, though I'm not entirely sure that that counts. I'll put them up anyway. i28.tinypic.com/140dmqu.jpgi28.tinypic.com/2e1vb46.jpgI think the reason that I don't draw or shade when I'm happy is because I am generally over excited and can't focus. There is no in-between version of happiness. When it comes to stages of happiness I am either neutral or spastic with joy. *rolls eyes* I'm just lucky that most people think it's cute when I get like that and not psychotic. Though I hate it when people think I'm cute. HATE IT, I tell you!!!

I usually just feel either at peace, or completely obsessed (I HAVE to finish this, type of obsessed).
OMG. Have I told you I love you today? The first one was so amazingly adorable, and the second, the dragon---ooh! I love pictures that use little dots like that (i have no idea what it's called), and the colors are just so pretty. It looks like a mosaic. How are you so good at dragons?
You hate being cute? You should meet Daemon and Ank then.

The dot technique is called stippling and takes forever to do. I just didn't know how else to shade decently with marker.
As for dragons...I was obsessed with them for a very long time. They were the first things that I ever began to draw consistently and I still find myself turning back to them. They are just easier for me to draw for whatever reason. I think I just like their serpentine shape. Snakes are fun for the same reason, though most of them don't have the cool looking wings that dragons have. Dragons have all kinds of fun embellishments to work with...
And yes, I don't like being cute. It's not good for my self-image, which is dark, dramatic, and borders on evil. *grins* Though I have no problem drawing cute/pretty things...

Stippling? Thank you for telling me. I've been wondering that forever! I really like that style.
Well, I'm glad you were obsessed. Now your artwork is gorgeous. You should get a DA account so we can show it off. Dragons are amazing, I know what you mean about their shapes. I can't draw dragons to save my life, but all over my notebooks I doodle vague S-shapes. ((hurray for the trogdor method of drawing dragons?))
Awwww, but you're so cute Asila! *huggles*

*tolerates hug with a long-suffering sigh* Well, it could be worse. I could be a fluffy teddy bear. And I don't think my artwork is that great. It needs detail...though I have come a long way in a relatively short amount of time. I didn't draw at all when I was young, unless I had to for a school project. I just googled trogdor and looked at a utube clip. I'm sure you can draw a better dragon than that! And no deviant art account for me. You can see the spine of my sketchbook on every scanned image! The quality isn't good enough! And I don't know ANYTHING about photoshop! I'm going to post the other images that I scanned from my current sketchbook. A few of them are just sketches, but they're good. (one of them is a humanoid creature. Her arm is terrible and her hands need work, but I decided not to torture myself trying to fix it. I can worry about that kind of thing if I ever decide to finish it.) i29.tinypic.com/xcopyd.jpgi26.tinypic.com/r8xh87.jpgi30.tinypic.com/2nu0y28.jpgi27.tinypic.com/2ivm9tk.jpgHere's an outline of a phoenix. Because I kind of hate half the things I draw, I didn't make much of an effort to outline it well and messed up one of the flames as a result, but I kind of like it. i27.tinypic.com/s17tys.jpgThis is a graphite picture of a kitten that I finished. He's not proportional, but that just makes him look even cuter. i27.tinypic.com/erfvup.jpg

The trogdor thing is a joke. You've never seen Homestar Runner? It's a popular flash cartoon on the internet. One of the main characters, Strong Bad, a sort of satire of the typical anti-hero, replies to fan mail everyweek. One of the most best emails asked him to make a 'how to draw a dragon' tutorial. And thus, Trogdor came into existence.
You really need to get out of Wisconsin, I've seen Trogdor merchandise everywhere I go in Illinois. Even my professors have Trogdor spoofs to make fun of what they teach.
Aww, it would be cool if you had a DA account! Well...not that I'm much better with mine. I just use mine lately to favorite pictures I like.
As for your pictures, I love them, as always. The first couple are a little hard to see (as a result of scanning). But the last three are darling. I love the griffin-creature with the two moon-like things in the background. And the phoenix (I don't know what you complain about).

Hey! I've been out of Wisconsin! I've traveled to both the east and west coasts and as far south as Florida. (and since my grandparents like to drive and stop at tourist attractions on the way, this means I've stopped within quite a few states). I've also been to Canada and Mexico. I also lived in Illinois for a few years (though I admit that I was very close to the Wisconsin border and it hardly counts, though my classmates seemed to think it was another world. And you tell me that I should get out more...) And I've never seen any Trogdor merchandise. So there! *sticks tongue out at Seven in a very childish expression of sullen triumph*
Oh, and the picture with the funky background (I had meant the pale blue circles to be suns. I started thinking 'Huh, I wonder what the sky would look like if it were red?" A thought that I soon followed with "What if the suns were new stars, instead of a middle-aged one like ours? New stars are blue..." And that's how I came up with the funky, alien sky) the creature is a winged stag. I just had to make him even more peculiar than a regular winged stag by giving him a lion-like tail and a mane. You know, there is a mythical creature that resembles a winged stag. They are known as Perytons and cast the shadow of a man. I found the most interesting illustration in my The Enchanted World books, though I didn't find that image until I had finished my own. The illustration that they had of a Peryton resemble an elk stag with wings, whereas mine resembles the more exotic black buck in figure.
I didn't like that picture, though. I thought it should have been more detailed...but that is always my issue, isn't it? *rolls eyes at self*

*hands up in defense* All right, all right, I'm sorry! (looks at all the places she's been to). Sounds like you've been around more than I have! (In America, at least...) Still, you didn't see Trogdor? I'll have to get you acquainted with Homestar runner then. some of it is pretty funny.
They're blue stars? I didn't realize (I thought they might be blue moons...) But that makes sense. I guess I just wasn't thinking of the possiblity of a new star. Your winged stag is pretty sweet though. I like the mix a lot, though I've never heard of a Perytons. If my internet was so slow (though i shouldn't be complaing, as it is not mine...), I'd go google it.
