Basically, you can say as much or as little as you'd like. I pretty much just want the name, appearance, age, and race so everyone can use it as reference. Anyone using information given on a character's profile to meta-game will be shot. The only time you need to specify things about abilities and/or weaknesses is if you are making a miscellanous character, such as a spirit.
