This is my late art project. I severely underestimated the time it would take me to do this. I thought I would have it finished in under three hours, but it took me four. As a result, I was an hour late to my art studio class. I'm just luck that my professor weathers such lapses so kindly. I must have earned the revered 'eccentric artist' status, or something. *shrugs* alias-asila.deviantart.com/art/Not-so-different-137178751

Holy crap! ...I am stunned speechless. I really love that one! I left a more coherent comment on your DA, but now I need to disappear once more to write essays.

This picture is proving to be a vital piece in my artistic career. My style's never been consistent. I favor certain topics and qualities, but my style itself was always shifting. Now, I'm getting this flood of ideas that employs the same look. And since my strength in art is rhythm and flow as opposed to detail, I think I'm on the right track.
I also like this style because this picture only took my 4 hours from start to finish. When I do stuff with colored pencil, on the other hand, it seems to take at least three times that long. Which is a bit on the tedious side. It's nice to have an artistic outlet that flows more easily, and that's what I think I may have stumbled upon.
Oh, and the prototype for that picture is in my old sketchbook. I always liked the idea of that picture, I just hadn't been able to pull it off then. But it looks world's better this time around! I can hardly believe it!
My original idea was going to be in color, with the girl's hair being brown with black stripes and her eyes the same green as those of my cat, who is also brown with black stripes. I just had to shift the idea into black and white since the assignment required us to make a black and white design that would stand out among the other pictures in the class. *sighs* It's too bad I misunderstood the due date. I would have loved to see how well it would have done.
By the way, I also responded to your comment on my account. More ranting for you! *grins*

Well, I finished the sketch of Candy Corn Dragon, and it looks freakin' awesome. And it makes me think of my childhood. Which is just demented, but amusing to the tenth degree, so I can live with that. *grins* I am happy. Very, very happy. And I am now determined to finish this picture by Halloween, even if that means falling even more behind on my schoolwork than I have already. *shakes her fist at her job, then grumbles to herself* Stupid time-hoarding, sunlight-depriving, homework compromising, eighteen hour weekend. *frowns* Anyway, here's the picture! i33.tinypic.com/2edqxck.jpgI'm going to go all out on lighting effects on this one. Those lights are going to be multi-colored and will reflect off of the walls they hang against. They will also gleam in the windows and puddle, which will serve as black mirrors. That is a worn teddy bear getting engulfed by the shadow puddle, by the way. I just couldn't resist... Anyway, as you've probably guessed, the room Candy Corn Dragon is sitting in is run-down and grungy, and I'm going to try to make sure that I apply my colored pencils in textures and layers that will emphasize this. Oh, and did everyone notice that Candy Corn Dragon has candy corn spines and talons? *grins* One final tidbit of background information. The entire idea basically stemmed from the hat. I saw them in the Superpoke Pets pet shop and decided I wanted to draw a halloween creature with a hat just like them. Then the sketch kind of snow-balled from there into what it is now. I hope everyone likes it!

Seriously, wow! That picture is so *sparkly* freaking cute! I want it!!! I want a pet candy corn dragon! (Rojo, you are a pansy for being scared of this adorable thing!) I absolutely love the concept. Admittedly, I have seen a few other candy corn related people/creatures, so I have been loving this concept for a while, but yours is really the most fun! Because no one else has done a super precious looking dragon in a fun hat. And yes, the hat is very fun.
This picture has so much detail Asila and I am very impressed, because you've gone beyond the super cute-fun creature and created a whole interesting background that makes sense for it as well. I can't help but feel bad now for the little dragon, having to leave all alone in a grungy apartment *sniff*. Poor fella. He looks so young too. And yes, I did notice the crumpled up toy, and also the cute little bat hanging from his hat. *grins wryly* All you are missing is a spider now *teases*.
But back to the dragon! I loved how you worked out all of the spines! Especially on his head, how they fall over like hair. (Anthropomorphism is fun!) It really is just too amazing. *huggles....stealz* Ehem, anyways...I can't wait to see the finished project! I'm sorry that I can't provide much of a coherent critique beyond "OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG--IT'S SO CUTE, I WANT IT! *SPAZZ*" but that's just my stupid head for you. Perhaps I'll manage to be more coherent once I see the finished thing, but so far, it looks absolutely incredible!

Ha, I finally finished one of the fursonas! *dance of accomplishment* This one's all yours, Seven. I hope you don't mind the sketchy look. I'm trying to bring some texture back into my pictures, since I tend to get so obsessed with blending that I spend hours more on an image than I should have to. Which I want to change, since half the character of a picture is all in the mark-making. I might go back and refine this a bit more, since I'm not as happy with it now that the camera mucked things up a bit. Anyway, I hope you like it! i46.tinypic.com/24zhkqh.jpg
