"No. It's my private study, and people trust me." She locks the door behind him. "I guess I should start at the beginning. To clarify, my real name is Fala Laiane Nomicutori, but I've been called Laiane whenever I reside here."

Fire nods, then stops, 'I thought yor father was the Kaliente, after all, wasn't Job-eh trying to threaten you by saying "when i tell your father..."? I mean....you are a half-blood, aren't you?"

"Yeah, but my mother insisted me and my sister bear her name, despite the fact that I lived here most of my life."

"That way you could become the heiress...."fire looks thoughtful. "In any case, I'd like to know how you intend to bring about the reconcile of the two families."

"I'm not quite sure if reconcile is the right word." She turns andleans against the desk. "Right now I'm just trying to get everyone to stop killing each other. But anything more than that is beyond our grasp until we end the animosity. But everyone isn't as suspicios as they used to be; we've got two full-blooded Nomicutoris living here, one full-time, so even if no one knows it, we're being tolerated."

Fire shakes his head, "Arien?" and sighs, "What you're doing is crazy, tell me more. It's nice to hear something sane."

"No, Arien isn't a full-blooded Nomicu. Arien is my little sister, a half blood too. The two full-bloods are our half sisters. The one who lvies here full time is the other girl we came in with." She sighs. "Our real goal is just proving to the families that they aren't as different as everyone thinks. I mean, my full-blooded Nomicutori half sister is engaged to a Kaliente, so how could they be so different? My parents succeeded, for a time, and I'm sure there have been others."

"So what about your parents? Are they still entangled in forbideen romance? I take it they have broken up by now, from your previous statement."

"No, they let their prejudices get the better of them. They tried to coexist once they found out, after Gama was born, but they took every excuse to fight until finally they just decided to give up. My sister took it worse than I did. She bore the brunt of being shipped back and forth during her childhood. I was old enough to decide for myself."

"hmmm" fire sits down, eyes closed, "tell me, how do intend to stop the murdering? You've been playing spy for a while, but I still can't see the point of it. What is it that you tell the council?"

"I feed both families completely accurate but completely useless information. And by some twisted fate, I find myself engaged to the heads of offensive action for both families. So for now, I'm attempting to get them to call off the assassins. It's working a little; the Nomicu has agreed to at least listen to reason. Jobe," she practically spits the name out, "is a little more difficult. He's hellbent on assassinating every important Nomicu and turing everyone else into slaves."

Fire is now sitting on the table-top rather than the chair. (She must have blinked and missed when he moved.) 'And now I shall be working for him, the Robespierre of the Kalientes and his loyal executioner." Sighing again--it seems a little strange, his mannerisms (such as sitting on the table) are of such a young person, though his attitude is usually older, "so what can I do?"

She blinks once, not expecting the question. SHe stops, trying to figure out how to respond; it's obvious she was expecting him to be much less cooperative. "Um, not kill people?" she says with an unusallly strained expression, one eybrow raised comicly. "I mean, if you plan on making yourself useful, the best thing you could do is leave for a couple of days until I can convince my father to put you under someone less..." she pauses, looking for the right word. "Violent? Stuck in his ways? Icky?"

"Ahh--if it were only that simple," Fire says in a dazed tone, inwardly pleassed that he shocked her so greatly, "Back at your other home, I was an assassin, loyal to only my people. I am still that, and that loyalty does not fade. But this muderious intent is nothing more than ludicrosy devised aeons ago when one person crossed another. The war is madness, a financial burden to both and the loss of many people. I do not like being a murder, having to watch the faces of dying men in their final moment of agony, and washing out blood stains is the worst of chores. And yet even so, here I've been, holding a sword from before I can remember.
It is only wishful thinking on my part, but I would like to see this ordeal ended before I die, though I doubt any miracle so great could do that. No "Laiane" I don't talking to your father will greatly matter. I would only be placed beneath another mad dog. "

She pauses afte his little rant for several long seconds, trying to come up with a logical response. It eventually seems to dawn on her. "Not if I can see to it that you're put underneath someone I can control..." She stands and stares at the floor as she begins to pace, muttering to herself. "Since Gama's injured, all I'll have to do is convince him that Ioa is no longer willing to leave, what with the preparations for the wedding. And since working alone isn't exactly a possibility, he'd have to send in someone to fill their places! And a simple note that there is a conflict of interests, and BOOM!" She looks up, meeting his eyes. "You're in the perfect position!"
